Project Spotlight: Skyline Contracting’s Habitat for Humanity Roof Installation

Skyline Contracting is excited to highlight our recent collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, where we delivered essential residential roofing services for a new build. This initiative not only enhances housing for families in need but also, deepens our commitment to strengthening community ties. Background and Client: A Community Connection

This project took place in Gainesville, where Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to helping families obtain safe and comfortable living conditions. The homeowner was connected to Skyline Contracting through a personal network; Wes Hall, one of our team members, had previously coached the homeowner’s son in baseball. This community connection allowed us to collaborate closely with Habitat for Humanity on this meaningful project. Project Manager Paul Rogers led our team, which included integral members Wes, Micah Thomas, and Brian Meggs, who all played key roles in the successful execution of this important build.

The Project: Roof and Siding Installation

We undertook the installation of a new roof using GAF Timberline HDZ, along with vinyl Board & Batten siding and aluminum soffit and fascia. This project was especially unique, as the house was built primarily by volunteers, embodying the community spirit that Habitat for Humanity champions. Earlier this year, Habitat reached out to our team for assistance, allowing us to contribute to their efforts as they ramp up support for local homeowners.

Thanks to the partnership between GAF and Habitat for Humanity, we were able to access free roofing materials, which significantly enhanced the project’s impact. 

The Challenges: Turning Obstacles into Opportunities

One of the key challenges we encountered was coordinating material delivery and donations, given that the home was being constructed by volunteers. Collaborating with SRS Distribution as our supplier, we navigated the unique distribution channels to ensure all necessary materials arrived on time. Our team’s dedication to overcoming these hurdles was essential in keeping the project on track.

This experience has not only equipped us with valuable insights but has also solidified our partnership with Habitat for Humanity. We look forward to continuing this collaboration in future projects, using what we’ve learned to enhance efficiency and support even more families in need.

 

The Result: A Beautiful Exterior for Years to Come

We proudly completed the roof installation and are now gearing up to install the siding. This project truly highlights the transformative power of partnerships with nonprofits; our collaboration with GAF enabled us to provide a brand-new roof at no cost. The positive impact on the community is significant, ensuring a safe and comfortable home for the family and reinforcing our commitment to giving back.
